Smitty Lost his Skin... as if he were a Sssssnake!!!!

17 april 2017 - Amsterdam, Nederland

Okay! This was a very very cool moment!
When you keep spiders, you always have to check if they already lost their skin.
Smitty's skin is facing me with his head in my direction. The piece we are lifting, is where is the head. So he 'crawls' out of his skin with his head. At some point, you see 'a hole' being marked with the tweezers. This is where my Buddy starts to worry at first! The last part might be on the spider still, and causes headaches. Worse is, if the skin is still on the fangs… Than he needs help to get rid of it (scary task huh?!) If it stays on the fangs, he won't be able to eat :-(

At some point, when you have time, check out the rear end, for us viewers on the left: You can see 1 of the two nipples. It looks like a black sting… The Nipples aren't for female use when having babies ;-) They are used by each spider, to do the webbing. SO the webbing is not done with the mouth!
Never touch that back part of the back! This is where they have hairs that when they sense danger, they 'shoot off' in your direction with their rear 2 legs. These Porcupine kind of actions cause a nasty rash, but worse when they reach you eyes!!! Hairs on the legs etc you can touch without any problem.

Coolest of all is, that the skin is still very soft, which won't last long; now he can do a thourough check up, and put the legs in a nice pose befoer it dries up.
